Outline

Custom Campaign Adversaries

Duneveil Stalker

A magical desert feline predator used as an early-evening ambush near the ruined city. Its design emphasizes believable predator anatomy, a low stalking posture, patience, camouflage, and restrained magic rather than a glowing or roaring monster. A pair was planned for the camp encounter.

Corpsebearer Shade

A solemn undead or spectral bearer that carries the dead from the ruined city. Corpsebearer Shades are ritualistic and non-hostile in their established appearance. Their horror comes from purpose and inevitability rather than gore.

They returned the bodies of the Ashen Vow and placed them before the party’s camp.

Desert Bandits

Human or humanoid raiders wearing white clothing stained by dust and travel. They serve as recurring desert threats, though some “bandit” attacks may actually be staged by covert organizations.

Demon Dog

A six-legged infernal canine with heat, smoke, and internal fire. Developed as a dangerous desert or temple adversary.

Hound Master

A higher-tier handler or commander designed to work with supernatural hounds. The concept was built as a Tier 2 high-threat adversary.

Flame Guardian

A Tier 2 boss-like guardian associated with temple fire, ritual defenses, or the Cinderheart complex.

Catacomb and Temple Threats

Ash-Salt Dead

Undead inhabitants of the Hall of Thirsting Dead. Their identity joins desiccation, salt, thirst, and improper death. They make the room’s environmental history part of the threat.

Tomb Scorpion

A large scorpion inhabiting the Scorpion Well complex. It uses ambush, claws, and venom in a confined ritual environment.

Glassling Serpent / Glass Snake

A translucent or glass-bodied serpent whose movement leaves dangerous shards. The name appears in both forms during development. It inhabits the Scorpion Well area.

The official Glass Snake provides a useful mechanical baseline in Daggerheart, Adversaries p. 212.

Temple Skeletons

Tier 2 skeleton guardians created to match the official Daggerheart adversary design language. Their visual treatment shows two armed skeletons advancing through an ancient temple environment.

Sahrem, the Emberbound Warden

The named guardian of the Inner Sanctum of the Cinderheart. Sahrem can function as a boss adversary, ritual sentinel, or NPC bound to a duty.

Three Undead Guardians

Three figures in Ashur-Ka’s prison chamber that appear to be statues until activated. They defend the magical circle, altar, and djinn vessel.

Quartz and Mine Threats

Cinderquartz Shard Creature

A humanoid made from the mine’s magical quartz. It is an environmental monster as much as an independent creature: the mine’s new substance shapes itself into an attacker.

The original request established a shard monster with a humanoid silhouette constructed from quartz crystals. Exact naming and final stat presentation remain flexible.

Dangerous Rest Environment

The Quartz Below is designed so resting carries risk. The mine may shift, spawn creatures, worsen magical contamination, trigger countdowns, or allow hostile forces to regroup.

Supernatural Peoples and Beings

Djinn

Powerful, unnatural beings widely treated as tricksters. People seek them in desperation. A common warning states that a djinn gives a petitioner exactly what was asked for, never what was wanted.

Ashur-Ka demonstrates that djinn can also be imprisoned, evaluated morally, and allowed agency outside a compelled bargain.

Vampires

A campaign belief proposes that vampires descend from former Pharaohs promised eternal life. The promise was fulfilled in a cruelly literal form. This remains a setting concept or rumor rather than confirmed history.

Undead Mine Overseers

Tireless enforcers used by the mine authority. They do not bargain, tire, or forget. Their presence normalizes undead labor as an instrument of state punishment.

Planned and Rumored Creatures

Ancient Mummified Wyrm

A great undead desert creature proposed as the source of a difficult ingredient for the Oil of Anubis. Possible required organs included a spleen, kidney, or another preserved internal component.

The concept was well received, but the exact ingredient and encounter are not finalized.

Thri-Kreen and Desert Insect Peoples

Hostile or dangerous insectile inhabitants were proposed for the Sharian, including imagery comparable to massed predatory insects. Their culture, intelligence, and relationship to settled people remain undeveloped.

Underground Creatures

People or monsters from beneath the surface occasionally emerge and cause chaos. They may come from the Artery or other hidden underground regions.

Nabira’s Hounds

Two hounds accompanying the desert witch Nabira. Their exact nature—ordinary, trained, infernal, undead, or magical—remains open.

Mundane and Travel Creatures

  • Giant riding lizards: Common or practical desert mounts.
  • Hyenas: Used to pull sleds.
  • Horses: Conventional travel where water and forage permit.
  • Elephants: Domesticated for long-distance caravans by a specialized nomadic people.
  • Airship draft creatures: Enormous beings capable of pulling rare and expensive airships.
  • Fennec fox: Mulch’s first established animal form.
