Outline

Status Key

  • Occurred: Explicitly described as having happened to the party.
  • Developed: Prepared in substantial detail; play status may vary.
  • Planned: Intended future direction.
  • Hook: Reusable premise not yet committed to the main chronology.

The Last Secret

Status: Occurred as campaign-transition narrative.

The previous party’s final confrontation with Vecna begins with apparent hope, breaks through one small coordination failure, and ends with Vecna completing the Ritual of Remaking.

Sylcaryn escapes briefly to her bastion. The dead heroes watch from spirit form as Neverwinter, Syl, the bastion, and reality itself unravel into threads. The event closes the old campaign and establishes the metaphysical truth of the new one.

A Life Remembered

Status: Occurred as campaign prologue.

The new characters awaken in bodies that are familiar but not entirely their own, surrounded by mine laborers, prisoners, or property. They remember feelings rather than coherent history.

Two characters recognize the names “Merik” and “Syl” without understanding why. An undead overseer orders them forward because they have been purchased. A finely dressed man with an instrument recognizes more than he should and says, “Neither did you last time.” The name Kas rises from submerged memory.

Formation at the Mines

Status: Occurred / foundational premise.

The current characters converge through different routes:

  • Penal sentence.
  • Framing.
  • Sale by slavers.
  • Prophetic vision.
  • Pursuit by hostile organizations.
  • Existing ties to mine labor or its secrets.

The mines establish the campaign’s ordinary oppression before the party moves into larger divine and historical mysteries.

The Ruined-City Expedition

Status: Developed and treated as an early party event.

The party accompanies the higher-level Ashen Vow to a cursed city in the desert.

Travel

Desert bandits provide an early travel encounter and recurring visual motif.

Camp Outside the Walls

The Ashen Vow orders the party to establish camp and not enter the city. During early evening, two Duneveil Stalkers threaten the camp.

Return of the Dead

Corpsebearer Shades emerge from the city carrying the bodies of the Ashen Vow. They lay the bodies before the camp without attacking. The heroes appear largely unharmed but are dead.

The event creates several unanswered questions: what killed them, why their bodies were returned, why the Shades behaved ritually, and what the city expected the junior party to do next.

Catacombs of Ashur-Ka

Status: Developed; Ashur-Ka’s freedom and transfer of the Seal are treated as occurred.

The party explores a buried temple and catacomb complex connected to the Cinderheart.

Principal Sequence

  1. Locate the circular surface seal and rune-marked pillar.
  2. Use the Burning Jewel to open the Swallowed Stair.
  3. Enter the Hall of Thirsting Dead and confront Ash-Salt Dead.
  4. Solve the eastern statue mechanism and explore side passages.
  5. Enter the Scorpion Well, with its dry well, side rooms, Tomb Scorpion, Glassling Serpent, cave-in, and hidden corridor.
  6. Reach the Inner Sanctum of the Cinderheart.
  7. Confront or resolve Sahrem, the Emberbound Warden.
  8. Reach the red vessel containing Ashur-Ka.
  9. Free the djinn and allow him to decide whether to help.
  10. Recover or retain the Cinderheart Seal.
  11. Give the Seal to Neshet of the Stillwater Covenant.

Tone

The dungeon combines thirst, salt, improper death, ritual fire, ancient imprisonment, and choices about freeing a dangerous but wrongfully bound being.

The Quartz Below

Status: Developed as the next extended dungeon crawl.

Neshet planned to contact someone capable of helping use or understand the Cinderheart Seal. That person was already missing after investigating a mine.

The mine is no longer simply producing salt or ordinary ore. It has begun yielding magical quartz, later called Cinderquartz. The adventure is designed as an extended descent where resting is dangerous and the mine’s condition continues to worsen.

Established development includes:

  • A missing investigator or specialist.
  • A magically altered mine.
  • Cinderquartz with unusual power.
  • Humanoid shard creatures made from quartz.
  • Random encounters suited to an unsafe underground crawl.
  • A puzzle or trap tied to the crystal environment.
  • Pressure against taking easy or repeated rests.

King Sabet and Nabira

Status: Developed side-adventure or tomb material.

A tomb riddle uses four portraits representing King Sabet as Innocent, Heir, Conqueror, and Prisoner. Later versions use Dawn, Day, Dusk, and Night and include skeletal transformations.

Nabira, a desert witch in light-blue cloth, appears with two hounds. Her exact role can be adversary, guide, rival claimant, or keeper of the correct interpretation.

Oil of Anubis Arc

Status: Planned major campaign direction.

The party intends to learn whether Amun is truly imprisoned and to hear the truth directly from him. Ordinary mortals cannot safely descend through the Bowels of Anubis, so the party needs the Oil of Anubis.

Intended Progression

  1. Locate or contact the Priesthood of Anubis.
  2. Convince the priesthood that the party’s purpose is just.
  3. Investigate a lost temple whose previous investigators vanished.
  4. Determine why undead violate the temple’s proper order of death.
  5. Recover unusual ingredients or lost instructions.
  6. Obtain or create the Oil of Anubis.
  7. Travel to the Bowels.
  8. Descend into the depths.
  9. Find Amun.
  10. Learn what happened between Amun and Ra.

One difficult ingredient may require confronting an ancient mummified wyrm. The arc is intended to be substantial without becoming an enormous multi-level artifact hunt.

Other Developed Encounters

Ashen Vow Training Exercise

The higher-level heroes were given simple nonlethal abilities for a training or demonstration encounter with the PCs before the expedition.

Demon Dogs and Hound Master

A combat package involving six-legged infernal hounds and a higher-tier handler.

Tier 2 Temple Skeletons

Custom temple skeletons designed according to the uploaded Daggerheart adversary structure.

Flash-Blindness Hazard

A bright magical flash using a Difficulty 18 Finesse reaction concept. Duration and removal were discussed as campaign-level adjudication rather than a permanently fixed universal rule.

GM Notes

  • Some material was developed before play and later treated as campaign history in summaries. Where exact session status is uncertain, the encyclopedia preserves the content without inventing a date.
  • The strongest forward path is: Priesthood of Anubis → Lost Temple → Oil of Anubis → Bowels of Anubis → Amun.
  • Character-specific antagonists should increasingly intersect with that path rather than remain isolated side plots.
